ESG policy
Defuse Global ESG Policy 2025
At Defuse Global, we use the term ‘ESG’ to describe a comprehensive set of environmental, social, and governance matters that impact our company. We put these concerns at the core of our operations.
What ESG means for us
ESG measures and evaluates sustainability, enhances a company’s reputation, and manages risk. Operating can impact both internal and external stakeholders.
The ‘E’ element stands for Environmental: this will include issues relating to climate change, energy efficiency, waste reduction, sustainable sourcing and biodiversity.
The ‘S’ element stands for Social: this will include people-related issues such as human rights, diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI), and community engagement. In simple terms, the ‘S’ could just as easily be ‘P’ for people.
The ‘G’ element refers to governance: this covers board composition and structure, corporate culture and ethics, risk management and compliance.
Legal and regulatory: We must be aware of and aligned with the latest laws, regulations, and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR (and equivalent), UN Guiding Principles of Business and Human Rights, and the eight core ILO conventions). The founding team and Board of Directors should ensure the oversight of these issues.
Governance includes having appropriate governance structures in place according to the company’s stage (e.g. board structure, share structure), writing out
code of conduct (committing the company to high ethical standards), adopting a whistle-blower policy.
Data privacy and security: instilling a strong culture of trust, responsibility, an best practice (e.g. with internal systems) around data.
How we operationalise ESG in Defuse Global:
ESG responsibility: We are a small team, and while we are concerned with and think about ESG when making decisions, we have assigned Philip Grindell the overall responsibility for ESG. Our approach to ESG will be discussed regularly in our C-level meetings (at least once a year).
Environmental responsibility: As a small business, we have chosen not to hire external office space, which requires additional heating, water, and other environmental functions. Our operating model is designed to reduce our environmental footprint to a minimum. We do this by utilising the internet to communicate and engage with clients, contractors, and the media wherever possible. We are mindful of using paper and our waste management protocols, recycling where possible.
Working environment: Our business model involves subcontracting elements to a carefully vetted group of external experts and consultants. We are committed to engaging with a diverse group of consultants wherever possible and providing an inclusive working environment.
Social Responsibility: At the core of Defuse Global’s work is ensuring our clients feel safer, whether at work or in their personal lives. Working with our clients to create safer workplaces, improved conditions, and legal obligations is a critical function of what we do.
Good Governance: As a small consultancy, we have ensured that the processes we use are legal, regulated, and regularly measured. Such metrics include our commitment to Cyber Essentials and our goal of achieving ISO 9001 in 2025.
Defuse Global’s services are legal, audited, and compliant with best practices. Mindful that we operate globally, we operate under UK law whilst complying with international law as appropriate.
